About NearlyOutOfDate.com “Scientific opinion is divided about the causes of global warming and on the impact of waste and pollution, unquestionably an important contributory factor. However, “doing nothing” to my mind is no longer an option and I am determined at least to try and leave this planet in a safer and healthier condition than the present drifting downward spiral. As a singer/songwriter, I never go to bed without a pen and paper alongside. It may sound a bit “whacky” but if an idea comes into my head during sleeping hours, I write it down. And the birth of an Idea, simple yet untried, came to me in my subconscious state one night at 4 am. Quickly I scribbled it down, turned over and went back to sleep, not fully appreciating in those early hours, the enormous potential of a concept which could have a worldwide impact. After considerable reflection, what can now be seen on the website all began from these small beginnings. I registered two domains nearlyoutofdate.com and almostoutofdate.com. Commencing with family and friends, wherever I raised the issue, it received enthusiastic approval. I have had preliminary discussions with a national broadsheet newspaper who are angling for an “exclusive” but who did remark that they were astonished that I had succeeded in registering both domain names. A wealthy friend of mine offered to cover the costs of setting up the website (on condition that his/her name was withheld) and whilst performing recently at a series of concerts in the USA, I came across a website designer. He loved the concept and, together, we developed the website, one hour at a time so that gradually the site took shape. Now that I’ve returned to the UK, I hope the website and a huge input of my own enthusiasm, drive and perseverance will, with the help of the world’s press and the food retail industry, make my dream a reality. The average British family spends some £3,500 a year on food and costs are moving in an upward direction at a time when wages, particularly in the private sector, are on the slide. The widespread use of psychology to encourage impulse buying in supermarkets will rapidly diminish if the public seek out the website and buy what they need and not what simply catches their eye on a whim. The website will list all their stores and all products NEARLY OUT of DATE with their expiry dates and reduced prices. This should bring increased sales activity to the store and, equally importantly, reduce wasteage of unsold goods dumped on landfill sites throughout the world. It is not intended that there would be a charge for using the website. It is free to register, list your goods and to search.. It is a noticeboard for food shops across the World and if the public use it (we all love a bargain) they will automatically reduce CO2 emissions. A little CO2 reduction by one family, when expanded worldwide, is a massive reduction of this pernicious gas. And the beauty of the whole concept is sheer simplicity.......happy shopping in a happier less polluted environment! Contact Us: |
